What Are Legal Change Alerts?

UK employment law is constantly evolving. New legislation, amended regulations, and updated guidance can make your existing policies non-compliant overnight.

Bounda automatically tracks changes from key legal sources and alerts you when they may affect your handbook policies. This means:

  • No more missing important legal updates
  • Know exactly which policies need attention
  • Time to prepare before changes take effect

Primary Legislation

  • • Employment Rights Act

How Alerts Work

1

Change Detected

Our system monitors legal sources and detects new legislation, amendments, or updated guidance.

2

Impact Analysis

We analyse which policy types are affected and map them to your existing handbook policies.

3

Dashboard Alert

If your policies are affected, you'll see an alert on your Dashboard showing which policies need attention.

4

Review & Update

Click through to review the change, understand the impact, and update your policy as needed.

Understanding Confidence Levels

Not all alerts are equally urgent. We assign a confidence score based on how likely the change is to affect your specific policy:

High Confidence (80%+)

Direct impact — action required

The legal change directly affects this policy type. Your policy will likely need updating. Review as soon as possible.

Medium Confidence (50-79%)

Potential impact — review recommended

The change may affect this policy area. Review to check if your current wording is still appropriate.

Lower Confidence (<50%)

Possible relevance — optional review

The change is in a related area but may not directly affect your policy. Review if you have time, but not urgent.

Policy Status After Review

When you run a compliance check on an affected policy, it will be assigned one of these statuses:

Current

Your policy is fully compliant with the latest legislation. No changes needed.

Review Needed

Minor updates may be beneficial but aren't legally required yet. Could be a future-dated change.

Update Required

Legal changes require policy amendments. Update as soon as possible to remain compliant.

Understanding Effective Dates

Many legal changes are announced before they take effect. We show the effective date so you can plan your updates:

IMMEDIATE

Change is already in effect — update policy now

UPCOMING

Change takes effect soon — plan your update

FUTURE

Change announced but not yet in force — be aware

Example: ERA 2025

The Employment Rights Act 2025 was announced in 2024, but many provisions don't take effect until 2026-2027. Bounda shows both the announcement date and the effective date so you can plan ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions about Legal Alerts

How does Bounda track UK employment law changes?

Bounda continuously monitors legislation.gov.uk, ACAS guidance updates, and significant employment tribunal cases. When we detect a change that could affect your policies, we create an impact alert that explains what changed and which of your policies may need updating.

What happens when a law change affects my policies?

When a law change impacts your policies, Bounda marks those policies as 'Update Required' and shows an alert on your dashboard. You'll see the effective date of the change, what specifically changed, and a confidence level. You can then use Bounda to analyse and redraft the affected policies.

How often are legal change alerts updated?

Bounda checks for legal changes daily. Major legislation changes are typically flagged within 24-48 hours of announcement. ACAS guidance updates and tribunal case law are reviewed weekly. You can see when each alert was last updated on the Legal Changes page.

What do the confidence levels on legal alerts mean?

Confidence levels indicate how certain Bounda is that the change affects your specific policy. 'High' means the change directly relates to your policy content. 'Medium' indicates likely relevance. 'Low' suggests potential indirect impact worth reviewing. Always review the specific changes regardless of confidence level.

Can I get notified about legal changes by email?

Yes, you can enable email notifications for legal change alerts in your Settings. Choose to be notified of all changes, only high-confidence impacts, or weekly summaries. Enterprise plans can also integrate alerts with Microsoft Teams.
