Set Your Tone Profile

Define how your policies should sound — from formal corporate to casual startup

What is a Tone Profile?

Your Tone Profile tells Bounda's AI how to write your policies. It controls the formality, voice, and style of every policy generated or rewritten — ensuring consistency across your entire handbook.

Think of it like this: Your tone profile is your company's "voice settings" for HR documentation. Set it once, and every policy will match your culture — whether that's formal and corporate or friendly and modern.

Why Does Tone Matter?

Reflects Your Culture

A tech startup and a law firm shouldn't sound the same. Your policies should feel like they come from your company, not a generic template.

Improves Readability

Employees are more likely to read and understand policies written in a tone that resonates with them.

Ensures Consistency

Every policy — generated or rewritten — uses the same voice. No jarring shifts between formal and casual.

Stays Compliant

Even casual tones maintain legal clarity. The AI adjusts style, not substance — all legal requirements are preserved.

Bounda offers four ready-made tone profiles. Pick the one that best matches your company culture.

Create a Custom Tone

If the presets don't quite fit, you can build your own tone profile by mixing and matching settings.

Pro Tip: Additional Notes

Custom tones include an "Additional Notes" field where you can give specific instructions to the AI. For example:

  • • "Always use British spellings (organisation, not organization)"
  • • "Avoid legal jargon — explain terms in plain English"
  • • "Include examples where helpful"
  • • "Use gender-neutral language throughout"

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change my tone later?

Yes! You can update your tone profile any time. New content will use the new tone. Existing policies keep their current style unless you regenerate them.

Does casual tone affect legal compliance?

No. The AI adjusts style, not substance. All legal requirements are preserved regardless of tone. A casual policy is just as compliant as a formal one.

Can I have multiple tone profiles?

Currently, you have one active tone profile per organisation. You can create multiple profiles and switch between them, but only one is active at a time.

What if I don't set a tone profile?

Bounda uses a sensible default (Professional & Clear) if you haven't set a profile. We recommend setting one to match your company culture.
